The Norwegian Parliament Approves Renewed Free Trade Agreement Between EFTA and Chile

Your paragraph text

Signed in Geneva in June 2024, the agreement strengthens the 2003 free trade framework, with the primary goal of boosting trade and fostering closer cooperation between Chile and the EFTA countries.

Norwegian Minister of Trade and Industry Cecilie Myrseth says she is pleased that the Parliament has approved the free trade agreement with Chile, which is an important trading partner for Norway. She emphasizes that strengthening existing markets is more important than ever. Furthermore, she states that this agreement will have significant impact for many export companies, particularly in sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, maritime transport, and renewable energy.

The renewed agreement includes, among other things, a chapter on digital trade and, for the first time in EFTA’s history, a chapter on small and medium-sized enterprises. It is an ambitious agreement that modernizes trade in goods, financial services, intellectual property rights, and public procurement, as well as trade and sustainable development.
