Oslo Chamber of Commerce Welcomes the Argentine Embassy
Oslo Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure of welcoming the Argentine Embassy in Oslo, represented by Ambassador Claudio Alberto Giacomino and Ennio Ramazzini from the Economic and Commercial Section. Their visit provided a great opportunity to highlight the growing interest of commercial and culture ties between Norway and Argentina.
Historically, Argentina and Norway share a unique relationship. Argentina was one of the first countries to establish formal recognition of independence of Norway when diplomatic channels were being established after Norway’s separation from Sweden in 1905. Norway, soon after regaining full independence, opened an embassy in Buenos Aires in 1906, as one of the first embassies out of Norway.
Norway–Argentina relations are long-standing and largely maritime driven: large numbers of Norwegian sailors were active in Argentina from the late 19th century, and commercial shipping lines and consular services were important. The economic connection has translated into cooperation over the decades in shipping, fisheries, energy, Antarctic research and, recently – LNG and energy investments from Norway.
Looking ahead, we greatly value the collaboration with the Argentine Embassy in Oslo and look forward to deepening the partnership between Norway and Argentina. With the new EFTA–Mercosur trade agreement opening exciting opportunities, we see strong potential to expand cooperation across energy, maritime industries, technology, and sustainable trade.
