As stated on the Norwegian government’s official website (regjeringen.no), Norway is taking steps to attract leading international researchers. To support this effort, the Research Council is launching a brand-new initiative designed to simplify the recruitment of experienced researchers from abroad.

Sigrun Aasland, the Minister of Research and Higher Education, highlights that academic freedom is under increasing pressure in the U.S., putting many researchers in an uncertain position within what has long been the world’s leading knowledge nation. As a result, it is essential to identify effective measures that can be swiftly implemented, which is why the process of prioritizing initiatives that can be quickly put into action has been assigned to the Research Council.

This new initiative is a key element of the government’s long-term strategy to bring international researchers to Norway. Open to applicants worldwide, the scheme is not restricted to researchers from the U.S. or U.S.-based institutions. In its first phase, the program will be funded with NOK 100 million in 2026.
