Trade Finance Bank Conference 2025 officially in the books!

Together with the Trade Finance Committee, ICC Norway and Oslo Chamber of Commerce had the pleasure of hosting a two-day Trade Finance Conference in Oslo.
Trade finance plays a crucial role in facilitating global commerce by providing the necessary financial support to businesses engaged in international trade. By offering instruments like letters of credit and guarantees, trade finance ensures that businesses can confidently enter new markets, secure payments, and manage transactions effectively.
The Trade Finance Bank Conference 2025 covered a range of important topics related to trade finance, risk management, and regulatory updates. Key topics discussed included:
- ICC Updates – Latest developments in international trade finance regulations and practices.
- Guarantees – Legal aspects and best practices for handling guarantees in trade finance.
- War Risk Insurance – Risk management in shipping and the role of insurance in mitigating geopolitical threats.
- Southeast Asia & China Market Insights – Economic and trade developments in these key regions.
- Sanctions Compliance – The impact of international sanctions on trade and financial transactions.
- Basel IV Regulations – Upcoming regulatory changes and their implications for banks and financial institutions.
- Practical Case Studies & Group Work – Hands-on sessions where participants worked on real-life trade finance challenges.
The ICC Norway Trade Finance Committee brings together representatives from Norwegian and Nordic banks to monitor and influence developments in trade finance. Since international payment terms are not universally regulated, ICC has developed self-regulating standards for trade finance that have become internationally recognized practices. These include rules for demand guarantees, letters of credit (remburs), and standby letters of credit.
The committee follows the work of ICC’s international Banking Commission, which is responsible for updating ICC’s trade finance regulations and addressing any issues related to their application.
