During challenging times of geopolitics, it is more important than ever to meet and unite efforts to preserve an open and secure internet to the benefit of mankind. The role of the internet as a common platform for communication needs contributions from all stakeholders to strengthen human rights and democratic values.

Minister of Digitalisation and Public Governance, Karianne Tung, has stated: “We welcome the largest UN conference ever to be held on Norwegian soil. We cannot take for granted that the internet remains open, safe, and free for all. That’s why we invite representatives from around the world to take part in discussions on key issues and priorities for governments and decision-makers.”

In June, thousands of participants from around the world will gather in Norway for the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2025 to exchange knowledge, build partnerships, and collectively address important issues related to the development of the internet. IGF has chosen “Building Digital Governance Together” as the main theme for this year’s major conference, with several government ministers contributing to the program.

The IGF  will take place over five days, from 23rd to 27th of June, and will include hundreds of lectures, meetings, and workshops centered around central themes within the field. It is expected that over 4,000 physical participants, along with an equal number of digital participants, will join the IGF conference of 2025.

The IGF is a highly important agenda-setter for the future of the internet, and we believe that the forum should continue to be a key global and inclusive discussion platform for internet governance. The IGF’s multistakeholder model provides significant flexibility to accommodate a wide range of perspectives and inputs while also strengthening the participation of underrepresented groups that typically have less space and access in multilateral forums. Norway supports the renewal of the IGF’s mandate when it is reviewed by the UN General Assembly in 2025.

The main venue of this year’s IGF is Nova Spektrum in Lillestrøm, only a short distance outside Norway’s capital – Oslo. We welcome all participants and look forward to a great conference in a sunny, Norwegian summer.
